One Month

The first month was a blur. My mom and brother came to visit, Scott & Emily came to visit with Lucius and Kieran.

In the first month I went in to go to the bathroom and noticed a lot of blood, it was coming out fast and not stopping. I opened the bathroom door to tell Greg and almost passed out, he said I was super white. We called my OBYN and he said I better come in. We went to his office and he did an exam. It was bad, they ended up having to rush me to the ER. His office was close and connected by an underground tunnel while I was laying on a bed we went to the ER. I think they had to do some sewing down there and from there Greg and I can’t remember what happened.

I did have to sit on a donut for at least a month after. It was pretty sensitive.

I had no maternity leave. I was required to take the 2 weeks of PTO I had then FMLA would kick in and I’d get 50% of my pay for up to 12 weeks. We couldn’t afford that so I only took 2 weeks off after my PTO, so a total of 4 weeks. Greg went back to work after a couple of days.

It was hard. There were times I’d call him crying. I couldn’t get Jayse to stop crying. He also had acid reflux and would projectile vomit after eating. Plus there were 2! We did have help my sister and friends would come over.

It was hard but there were so many sweet moments. I can remember looking at the babies and kept thinking I can’t believe they are mine. Can’t believe how little they are. How cute they are. It just felt so surreal.

I loved seeing Greg with them. He was so good. He jumped right in, would do diapers, feedings (both were bottle & formula fed). He could swaddle the heck out of the babies. They could not move or get a little arm out. He also really had a way with Jayse. We eventually found we could take him for a car ride and he would fall asleep. We’d bring him in still in his car seat careful not to rock him. We’d put him in the kitchen right inside the door from the garage and hope he’d sleep for a while.

Jaelee was the easiest baby, she hardly ever cried. For the first while the kids slept in the same crib. One could be crying and the other would sleep right through it.

It was summer so I’d take them outside on a blanket to do tummy time. We’d go for walks with them in the double stroller. We lived fairly close to my work so I walked there with the babies to show them off.

We found a pediatrician we really liked Dr. Wick. They had several doctors visits and shots. We met with the surgeon and found out Jayse would have his first surgery at 2 months old.

I took a lot of photos but didn’t have a great camera back then, sadly a lot of the pictures are out of focus.

This is still one of my favorite photos. It’s on display in our hallway to this day.

When I was taking pictures of the naked babies they did leave a mark.

Used the close up of their faces for the birth announcement card.
