So I didn’t start this blog until the kids first Christmas and it’s missing some of the really early stuff. I wanted to go back and add some so we have it as part of this big ole’ blog record I’ve been keeping.
One of those big events I wanted to add was Jayse’s first surgery. Because he was born with a cleft lip and palate he had surgery when he was 2 months old, on July 17th. The surgery was to his lip to make the 3 pieces one. He had a bilateral cleft meaning he had 2 splits in his lip, not just one.
I remember that morning I was scared about my little baby going under and having surgery. I had Greg take a couple of pictures of me and Jayse.
At the hospital it was so weird putting on this little gown on such a tiny baby. When they took him away for surgery it was very sad. I don’t recall how long the surgery took but I think it was a couple of hours. His surgeon who we still see on a yearly basis is such a great surgeon and guy. He is a perfectionist and wanted to make sure Jayse had the best smile he could have. We were really happy with the results.
I don’t believe he had to stay the night but it’s hard to remember. I think he was able to come home that evening.
I do know that by the next day he already looked different and the scabs on his lips weren’t too bad. He did have to wear these braces on his arms so he couldn’t bend his elbows and touch his lip.
The very next day we took him and Jaelee to the park for a walk.
