We were so busy this summer we didn’t make it out camping. When we weren’t off somewhere we were out on the boat so that didn’t leave us with any weekend when we could go camping. With fall arriving and the weather getting colder I wanted to hurry and get at least one camping trip in for this season.
Greg wanted to go bow hunting and he had a spot in mind. I was fine with the spot because he said there was a reservoir where the kids and I could play at while he was hunting.
We didn’t leave until we both got off work on Friday. By the time we got home and got the trailer hooked up it was already after 6. We ran to a fast food place and got some food, which seemed like it took forever. Then we had to make a stop at Walmart for some food and flashlights. It was 8:30 by the time we even got on the road.
We had an hour and half drive so we didn’t arrive until it was really dark. We found a camp ground and quickly decided on a spot so we could get all set up. We got everything set up in the dark and went to bed right away.
Greg got up early and went hunting while the kids and I slept. When they woke up we had breakfast and watched a few cartoons. Once we were dressed we headed outside the trailer to go hiking and see the water.
There was a trail to the water right by our campground. We started down the trail, got out of the trees to a clearing where we could see the reservoir. What we saw was not exactly what I had in mind. The water was pretty much gone leaving a large flat land with dead tree stumps all over it. Far off in the distnace we could see a small bit of water and some people fishing. I thought we could walk across the dry part of the reservoir to get to the water but as we ventured out on it I found out it was super muddy. Jayse got close to a small trail of water where it was really muddy and feel face first into the mud. He was crying and wanted to go back to take a bath. He was done with our adventures. We walked back to the trailer, changed clothes and waited for dad to get back from hunting.
Greg got back a little while later, with no deer. We decided to drive the jeep over to the small bit of water and try some fishing. It took us a few times driving around the reservoir to figure out how to get to the water. We had to go to the boat dock and actually drive on the dried part of the reservoir.
We fished for a while. The fish were jumping like crazy around us. Greg caught a couple fish but we threw them all back. The kids had fun playing in the mud and water. Jaelee at one point covered herself in mud and then was cold because she was all wet. I took off my long sleeve shirt and put it on her. Her and Jayse played a game where she would draw an X and Jayse would dig for buried treasure. It is so cool to see how their imaginations are developing.
After fishing we went back to our camp site and ate hot dogs, watched movies and hung out by the fire. Jaelee rolled around in the dirt and made dirt angels. She looked really cute and got really dirty.
Sunday morning we got up and headed home. It was a great camping trip.
