We went on our first camping trip of the season the second week in June. We left after work on a Friday and met one of Greg’s friends up at a reservoir called Horse Thief. I had never been there before and it turned out to be pretty nice. His friend was camped in a nice spot right by the water and the potties.
Of course it seems like we always get to our camping spot at dark and have to set everything up. This time was no exception. We quickly got to work getting our camper up and everything set up. That night we hung out for a bit. Meet some of our camping neighbors and then headed to bed.
We were fortunate enough to be able to have our camper there and our boat. Greg’s friend had an RV and pulled our boat up the day before when he came. We were also able to bring the kids’ bikes which turned out to be a great thing. They loved riding them around camp. Greg’s friend – Greg and his girlfriend also had a little boy there – all three of the kids had so much fun together.
Saturday we got up, made some breakfast hung out for a bit and then headed out on the boat. The reservoir is a no wake zone so we couldn’t go very fast in the boat. So we just trolled along fishing. Of course soon the kids were getting bored, the dog restless and were catching no fish. We banked for a bit and still didn’t catch anything. We decided to head back to camp after a while.
Greg wanted to go back out on the boat and try trolling some more so he dropped the kids and I off. I wanted them to try and nap so I put all the kids in our camper and turned on a movie but they were not about to nap. So we headed down to the docks and let the kids swim around while Greg and his friend were fishing. While the kids were swimming around Jayse started to get further and further out in the water. He had a life jacket on and a floaty so I told him to just paddle his way back but it seemed the more he paddled the farther out he got. I ended up having to go in that gross green water to swim and get him. Luckily after that the kids were pretty much done swimming.
When Greg showed back up it was my turn to have some fun. Julie and I went out on our raft, with a few drinks in hand and hung out for a few hours just sitting in the raft, drinking and floating. It was nice to have that time to talk with her and to relax.
After dinner Greg and I went out on the boat by ourselves. I took a few pictures while he did some fishing. He didn’t catch a thing the whole weekend. When we got back Greg and Julie went out on the boat for a while. That night we hung out by the fire and then went to bed.
The next morning it was time to pack up and head home. It was a great weekend and hope to do it again soon.
