The Yellow Raft & Lake Lowell

We had planned a day at the lake with my friend Jamie.  We met her at the Lake with our boat.  We got the boat unloaded and all of our “stuff” in it.  After getting everyone in we pushed off and Greg tried to start the motor but it wouldn’t start.  He tried for a good while but it wouldn’t turn over.  We eventually ditched the boat and decided we would just spend the day on the bank and hang out.

Luckily we had brought my square raft with us and the kids just played on it.  I have had this raft for probably close to 10 years.  My girlfriends and I used to take it out to the lake and lay on the sides and sun bath.  Quit a few years ago we took it down Indian Creek rafting and it got several holes in it.  I didn’t want to throw it away because I loved that it was square and had big sides for laying on and I hadn’t seen it or anything like it since I bought it.  Anyway I’ve hung onto it for years – it’s gone with me move after move in the hopes that one day I’d be able to patch it and use it again.  I had tried numerous patches.  I mean a lot !  Nothing worked.  I had remembered that one of Greg’s friends told us last summer that he used gutter sealant to patch his raft and it worked awesome.  I decided to finally try it and found a tube at Lowes for $4.  I tried it on another raft we had first and it did work!  Awesome!  So I knew after that I had to try it on my yellow raft.  I removed and cleaned all the other useless patches and put on the gutter sealant.  Once it dried Greg aired it up for me and it went flat.  Turns out he found several other holes we didn’t know about and patched them up.  It took us several times of blowing it up finding more wholes and patching but eventually it was whole again!  I think we patched 13 holes in total.  Anyways to say I was happy to have the barge (as we call it) back is an understatement.

As the kids played on the barge, Jamie, Greg and I just chilled in some chairs near the water talking and hanging out.  After eating lunch and hanging out for a bit more we called it a day.
