At the end of July Greg and I wanted to go camping. We thought it would be fun to try somewhere new, so we headed to Anderson Ranch. It wasn’t too far of a drive and the place was beautiful. We found a great little spot tucked away from the water but close enough to walk to it to fish and swim.
For once we arrived at our camping ground in daylight! We hurried and got everything set up and just as it was starting to get dark we went down and checked out the water.
Greg then made us a nice fire and we hung out by the fire for a bit. The kids of course had to find some sticks to poke in the fire and Jaelee told us ghost stories with her scary flash light face. And then it was off to bed.
We woke up the next morning and had a nice little breakfast outside under some trees. Unfortunately there were a lot of flies and bees, we spent a lot of time swatting them away.
After breakfast we hopped into the jeep to do some exploring. We drove around Anderson lake and it was really pretty.
When we got back we hung out for a bit. I hide away in the camper to read, it was a bit warm in there but it was refuge from the bugs.
While I was reading the kids were down by the water playing while Greg fished. After a while Jaelee came up and said she had to go potty as I was trying to help her she went while her bathing suite was still on. I decided to walk her and I down to the water to clean up. As I got close to the water I sunk into mud up to my waist. I yelled at her not to come close and tried to free myself. There was no luck I didn’t have stable ground around me to pull myself up. I yelled for Greg to come help me but he was doing his own “business” and was indisposed at the moment. I was afraid I was going to lose my shoes as they were the only ones I brought. I was clinging onto them with my toes as tight as I could and found a rock stable enough I could use it to leverage myself out. I crawled out and crawled over to the water to rinse myself off.
While all of this was going on I hadn’t seen Jayse. When Jaelee and I were clean we went back up by the camper and I asked Greg where he was he said he hadn’t seen him. We started yelling for him but heard nothing back. We yelled again and nothing. I was getting a bit freaked out so Greg and I started to walk around and find him. Then in the distance I see him walking down the road. He had been exploring on his own. I was freaking out and Greg thought it was fine – that’s what you do when your camping. I calmed down a bit and just asked him to please let me know what he’s doing next time.
After all of this fun (sarcasm) I thought it would be a good time for lunch. After eating lunch and swatting at more flies we got into our swimming suites and headed down to the water. We had brought our yellow raft with us and thought it would be fun to just go out in the water in it.
We hung out in the water just playing around in the raft for hours. There were moments when Greg and I could just rest and the kids paddled us around it was really fun!
After playing in the water Greg did some more fishing and I retreated back to the camper to read. There was a nice little springs near our campsite that the kids played in. While they were up by the springs Jaelee decided to do her own exploring and ended up getting lost. We could hear her and she was starting to panic a little. Greg had to walk up and find her. At this point I was ready for the exploring to be done.
We had a great dinner and then hung out again by the fire, watching the skies for shooting stars.
We packed up the next morning and headed home. It was a lot of fun even though we had a few snafus and a place we will camp again.
(this is what Greg and I saw when we woke up in the morning, look at this dirty feet!)
