We were lucky enough again this year to rent a cabin with my best friend and her family in McCall for the Winter Carnival. We didn’t get up there until late Friday night because we had to wait until the kids got out of school at 4. When we got up there we got all settled in and then had some dinner. The house we were staying at was a bit old and needed some updates but it was perfect for us. One of the rooms however was open to the living room and kitchen. Greg and I stayed in there which worked out because we were always the first ones awake anyway. The kids had a blast running around with Amy’s kids exploring the house and playing hide and seek. We then put the kids to bed and played a card game that was so much fun. We were up until 2ish playing the game for hours!
Saturday morning Greg the kids and I were up first. They watched a bit of tv. I had made my crockpot breakfast which was really nice to wake up to breakfast and not have to make anything. Amy’s sister and her family were able to join us Saturday. I went with them to look at a venue for Stephanie’s upcoming wedding and it’s going to be beautiful. They have charted a boat on the lake up there for the wedding and reception. I am lucky enough to be the photographer. I can’t wait! While we were out looking at the boat it was raining out and everything was a soggy slippery mess. I ended up taking a spill down some stairs bruising my bum.
When we got back to the house Jaelee, David and Ian went outside and played in a snow pile in the backyard of the house we were staying at. They made a snow slide, snow tunnels and Jaelee made me a snow heart. Just love that girl, she is always thinking about me.
Once the kids were good and frozen they came inside to get warmed up. We had a big jetted bathtub in the master bedroom so we filled it up with water and let the kids put their swimming suites on and get in the tub to swim and play around.
After they were done we got ready to go look at the ice sculptures. However because of the unseasonably warm weather and rain the sculptures were just blobs of snow. We couldn’t really tell what they were. So we skipped most of them and let the kids sled down the hill until they were good and freezing again. When we got back to the house we worked on making dinner and then we let the kids play for a while. We then put them to bed and stayed up talking and playing the card game Cards Against Humanity again. We had so much fun we were up again for hours playing it.
On Sunday we had to leave but before we did we took a quick group picture and went to look at the grand prize winning sculpture. It was still there but was a mess from the rain. We went to the candy factory quickly before heading out of town and loaded up on sugar. It was a great time and a tradition I hope we can keep for many more years.
