Old Idaho Penitentiary

A co-worker of mine told me about a photo night at the Old Idaho Penitentiary.  They were opening it to photographers for one night and waiving their usual photo fee of $25.  Then you could submit any of the photos you had taken while there into a photo contest.

This sounded like something that would be really fun.  I had never been tot he Penitentiary but always wanted to.  I knew right away that I wanted to go there and do one of our ghost family pictures.

The kids had practice that night so I went to the Penn by myself and Greg was going to meet me there after the kids practice.  When I got to the Penn though I realized I had left my battery at home.  I was hoping to take a few pictures around the Penn while I waited for them to get there but I couldn’t without my battery.  I ended up just walking around which was actually a lot of fun.  I read all about the people that were jailed there  and the history of the Penn.  It was open for 100 years from 1870 to 1972.  It was all very fascinating to me.

Greg did his best to get there as fast as he could but he got there right before the sun was setting which didn’t leave me very much time for a picture.  Since I knew right where I wanted to take the picture we hurried into there and got one picture.  After that we walked around the prison and I managed to get a few more pictures.

I had to leave to go get Jayse some new socks for football.  I left Greg there because he had never been there before either.  It was a pretty fun night walking around there and I would love to go back.

I submitted the following 3 pictures and a couple of days later I found out one of my pictures won!  And it was our family ghost picture.  I won tickets back to the Penn during the Friday night tours and there happens to be on on Friday the 13th where they do a special night.  Can’t wait to go back for that!
