Weekend Away

After the kids concert Greg and I left town for the weekend. We try to celebrate the weekend of St. Patty’s Day because that’s the day we met. Last year we went to a hot springs and loved it, so we returned there this year. We had an easy time getting up there and settled into our little cabin. It was perfect, we had a little living room, kitchen and a huge bedroom with an amazing view.

Once settled in we got into our bathing suites and went to the pool. We stayed there for a few hours but because we are old, ha we got tired kinda early and headed back to our cabin for bed.

In the middle of the night I woke up to go to the bathroom and I couldn’t get the light on, I thought maybe it was because I was using the wrong one just went to the bathroom and went back to bed. A couple hours later I woke up again and was freezing. Greg had opened a bunch of windows because our thermostat was set to 80 and he couldn’t change it so we opened the windows to regulate the temperature. I thought that because of this that maybe we blew a fuse with the heater trying to keep at 80 with the windows open. I nudged Greg awake and he discovered that we had zero power. He got ready to head to the lodge to ask how we fix our no power problem. When he opened the door he noticed that it had snowed a foot over night. When he got to the lodge he found out that the whole town was without power. Luckily it came back on about 30 minutes later. I thought it was kinda fun, snuggled up to keep warm in a cabin with now power while it was still snowing outside.

Mid-morning we made our way down to the hot springs pool. It was still snowing pretty good. Again I thought it was kinda magical and Greg agreed. Being outside in our with the snow falling, beautiful scenery around us, sitting in a hot springs just felt amazing. After a few hours we headed to town, if you can call it that. There’s 3 buildings – a bar, a cafe and a general store. We ate lunch at the same cafe as we did last year. It’s a cozy place with good food.

We went back to our cabin after lunch and just kinda hung out. I read a book and Greg played solitaire. We just hung out until dinner. We had brought our crockpot and made corned beef and cabbage. It was delicious! After dinner we went back to the hot springs and made it until midnight this night!

We were both kinda sad to have to leave Sunday. We had a great time. It’s nice to unplug (there is zero wi-fi and no cell service) and just be together once in a while.
