Meeting in the Middle

It was a bit expensive to fly the kids to my sisters so to save on costs we decided we would meet in the middle and drive to get them. We met in a small town in Nevada. Greg and I didn’t leave until we got off work so we got there pretty late. We did have a pretty nice drive, got to see some of Nevada that we had been through before but only in the dark. I was really excited to see those little faces and it was a super bonus to see my sister and her family even though it was so briefly.

My sister had found this old hotel on top of a casino in Ely it was pretty cool, they had a tiny room but I booked a suite because it was only $10 more. Our room was pretty big and had a separate little room with 2 twin beds. It was a cool place.

The kids were pretty hyped up when we got there, Jayse sat on a table attached to the wall in my sisters room and it fell right off. I told Greg he needed to go let the front desk know so my sister and her husband didn’t get charged for it. Luckily I don’t think they did…right sis?

Anyway we all hung out for hours talking until it got pretty late, we all had a long drive back home the next day so we needed to get to bed.

We woke up early the next morning and went and had breakfast together. There was a Denny’s in our hotel and we had coupons for free breakfast from the hotel so that’s where we headed. It was a pretty awful experience. Service was slow, Jaelee found glass in her pancake (Greg complained about it and they did nothing, later the manager did come out an apologized after we paid for our meal) and my omelet was cold with a plastic piece of cheese on it (ok not real plastic but you know the cheese I’m talking about).

After breakfast we headed our separate ways, Brandi and her family were meeting friends in Vegas for lunch and we were picking up Greg’s mom and our nephew in Utah.

On our way through Utah we stopped at the Bonneville Salt Flats, I had always wanted to go there but had never made it but we were literally driving right passed it so we stopped. I am glad we did! It was so cool, you can drive right out onto the salt flats, it was kinda smokey and really bright so it looked almost like a white out, we could barely make out the mountains in the background. The salt felt almost wet, it stuck to our shoes and was all over the bottom of my car. It was stuck so good it made it all the way home with us and I had to blast it all off with the hose. Sadly I did not have my big camera, I was kicking myself for that one but still got some photos with my phone.
