1000 Springs

After our Easter Egg hunt we had to leave because I had plans to go on a dinner cruise with a former co-worker, turned friend. So for years I’ve been saying I wanted to go to 1000 Springs, it’s a scenic tour along the river where there are 1000 springs. I always remember towards the end of summer when it’s dried up. This year I finally remembered and we had a very went spring so it was going to be perfect. I asked a friend who is interested in photography as well if he wanted to go with me.

We made plans to go on the scenic tour in the morning but days before we were to go they sent us an email canceling it. Apparently we were the only 2 scheduled to go and 2 people were not worth the cost to run the boat on the trip. They gave us the option to upgrade to the dinner cruise that same day. I looked to see if there was another day we could do the scenic tour but sadly it was sold out for the rest of the season. The dinner boat went on the same route as the scenic one so we decided to still go. Bonus now we would be getting a fancy dinner!

The drive to the boat took about 2 hours. It was rainy and kinda crappy weather. Luckily the boat is covered so the weather didn’t cancel the trip.

We had a great time! The food was delicious, the scenery was beautiful and we saw some cool birds. My friend, Greg has some major camera gear. He has a 500 mm lens. This thing is huge, it has it’s own handle and is heavy! I tried to get a few pictures with it but I couldn’t hold it steady enough. The level of zoom though was amazing, it would be fun to play with.

The captain of the boat was very knowledgeable and a great guide. We learned a lot about the Oregon Trail, the owners of the property many years ago and even some interesting factoids about some of the newer houses along the river. It was a great time to go, the springs were flowing pretty good. There was one with an old water well, I thought it was so cool. The captain let us know it was coming up so that we could go out on the balcony of the boat to get better pictures.

The captain told us where this wood fence is, was where they crossed during the Oregon Trail.

How beautiful is this? It looks like something from somewhere tropical, not the desert of Idaho.
