This year for cheer in order for Jaelee to have a team to cheer on I had to become the coach. It’s not something I ever saw myself doing. I told them if I was going to be a coach we would be cheering for my sons team. That way we would have the same schedule.
The first week was challenging. I had a short notice of becoming the coach and finding out about my team. Then once we started and some of the sisters of the football players learned we were cheering they wanted to join the team. I started with 3 girls and ended with 5. It was a little crazy getting them signed up and caught up.
The first week we spent it getting ready for cheer camp. The theme was Celebration and we could pick any celebration as our theme. We picked a birthday. We had a booth we needed to decorate, shirts to decorate and learn some cheer basics.
On the day of cheer camp we had to be there at 7 am! Gosh that is early on a Saturday. We had 2 hours to decorate our booth before camp started. We ended up getting it decorated in an hour so we had some time to hang out before camp started. We were lucky that one of the girls Grandma’s learned balloon animals. She made a whole bunch. They really added some fun to our both. I thought our booth was the best.
When camp started it was kinda horrible if I’m being honest. We have a new cheer director for the program this year and it just didn’t seem well put together. The dance and cheers were WAY too advanced for the girls and they just gave up and got bored. They didn’t involve the football players like in years passed which always added some fun. Overall it kinda sucked. I know it was her first year I’m sure it’s a huge undertaking and this is all volunteer it was just kinda hard when we were used to it another way. I’m sure with time it will be better.
On a plus overall I think the girls had some fun and 2 of my girls won metals in the jump competition for their age group! Best of all we all survived!
