Greg had been waiting for elk hunting the entire year. He saves all his vacation time for this. The kids and I travel for spring break but Greg does not go with us because he wants to use his vacation for hunting.

His childhood friend, Brady came over this year. They had a 9 day hunt planned. Greg had spent hours looking at his hunting app deciding where they would go. I mean HOURS. He finally picked the spot and then planned out their routes. It wasn’t too far away so they would be able to come home every night instead of camping. I was grateful for that.

One of Greg’s friends here went out with them on the first day. It was Friday the 1st of Nov. They left early in the morning the plan was to go out and come home that night. I had a dinner date with friends that night and afterwards when I hadn’t heard from them yet I started to get a bit worried. I called the wife of our friend Tyler. She hadn’t heard from them either but Tyler had told her they could potentially be home late, that gave me some ease. However, when they still weren’t home by 11 I was starting to freak out. Lacey, Tyler’s wife was getting a bit worried too but luckily she got a text about 11:15 that said they were ok and headed home and had got an elk.

When they got home I saw the elk head in the back of Brady’s truck it was huge. The horns filled the whole truck bed. Turns out Brady shot the prize bull about 8 that morning and spent the rest of the entire day packing it out. They got home about 12 that night and didn’t even get it all. They had to go back Saturday to pack the rest out.

We had breakfast Saturday morning at one of our favorite breakfast restaurants, then Greg and Brady went to Cabelas to purchase a packing cart hoping that they could make less trips to get the rest of the meat. They said it helped a lot and got everything out that afternoon.

They spent the rest of the season hunting. They saw a few more big bulls but couldn’t get a shot at them. Greg & Tyler did get a smaller elk together on the last day. They all had so much fun, they literally started planning for this year right away.
