I had pre-planned some excursions while we were in Mexico but I didn’t plan anything for the first few days. I wanted to just hang out and get our bearings. So our second day we didn’t have anything planned. EXCEPT we had to go to that hotel with the thing Greg set up. We decided not to take the kids. We knew they would be bored. The guy told us we’d only be gone 90 minutes so we figured they’d probably just sleep the whole time we were gone.
We got up early told the kids good bye and walked out the hotel and across the street to the store we were supposed to meet him at. He’d told us he would be there and cut mangos from the tree for us to eat. He didn’t have any mangos (red flag) and immediately told us his car was too small to fit us and the next couple he needed to pick up so he was going to put us in a cab. He also wanted us to have our kids with us so we couldn’t use them as an excuse to leave the hotel tour we were doing early. We told him we were not bringing them so he asked us again to lie and tell the people at least one of our kids was 18 (red flag). I’m ready to bail on this whole thing but Greg is still going along. We get in the taxi with a driver who doesn’t speak any english. The guy had to put in the cab drivers phone where we were going. I’m thinking another big red flag! We don’t even know where we are going! However, we do make it to a beautiful hotel. The cab driver is asking us for pesos and I’m not about to pay for this ride. We finally find someone at the hotel that speaks english and he is able to get us connected with the group we were supposed to be with and pay the cab driver. We never did see the guy that suckered us into all of this again. We get led into a nice area of the hotel with a big breakfast buffet. We got some breakfast and were paired with a salesman. I am not being very friendly cuz again don’t want to be here. After breakfast they take us on a tour of this hotel – which again was beautiful with many perks. After the tour we find out why we are really there and it’s so they can sell us a timeshareish thing! I was so pissed, this is exactly what I didn’t want. After going round and round with the salesman we are finally lead to believe we are leaving and getting our tickets to the water park. But we have to go through yet another salesman trying to get us to buy a lower package. I was so done just wanted out of there. We finally get our park passes and free bottle of tequila. We get put in a car to be taken back to our hotel. With another driver that did not speak english. He didn’t even know where our hotel was! Greg put our hotel into google maps and held his hand up by the driver with his phone for the driver to follow and get us back.
After all that we got back to the hotel and the kids were still in bed. Even though we were only going to be gone a few hours it ended up being over 4. We got them up and headed out to find a place for lunch. We had saw a little restaurant by the store we had to meet the guy at earlier so we thought we’d walk there and give it a try. It was soo good. In fact the food everywhere we went was so good. We ate so much pico de gallo. They served it with every meal – it was fresh and delicious. Greg loved it so much he was literally spooning it onto his chips.
We had a nice lunch and then headed back to the hotel to get back in the pool and then later the ocean.
While by the pool we saw our first iguana. We all thought that was pretty neat, we’d see them everywhere after this. We got a few drinks from the pool bar. Greg and Jaelee got drinks in a coconut. Jaelee’s was just coconut water and Greg’s was some mixed drink. I’d tried coconut water before in Hawaii and it was gross so I was good to pass. Jayse tried Jaelee’s and didn’t like it. Jaelee thought it was ok, she drank some of it but eventually gave it to Greg who took it to the bar and had them add some adult mixins into it.
I got a bit annoyed with Greg talking with some single lady – it wasn’t the fact that she was single. I could hear him talking about his wife, it was the length of time he spent with her – it could of been anyone. After talking for an hour I’m like hello we’re on a family vacation – maybe hang out with your family. We rarely fight but this started a lovely one. I was annoyed so me and the kids headed over to the ocean, Greg made his way over there finally. We didn’t speak much the rest of the night. I think all the day drinking had something to do with it. But by the end of the night we talked it out and were fine the rest of the trip.
We kept seeing this pirate ship, our hotel was by the marina so we could see it leaving and going. It was an excursion you could pay for to go on a ride on the ship, they do a little show and you get dinner. We thought about doing it but never did.
