Forge

Greg and Jayse like to watch Forged in Fire….because of course they do. Greg has wanted to get a forge for a while. He finally found an affordable one on Amazon so he got one. He needed an anvil to pound on but they were expensive. As luck would have it as he was talking to someone at work about it and they knew where he could get an old railway rail that had been put on some chains. Someone had used it for exactly what Greg wanted but wasn’t using it anymore. He was able to get it and bring it home.

Then he needed some metal. Again he got lucky and got some from something left over at work. He had to cut it into smaller pieces to use and then welded it onto another piece of metal to be able to put it in and out of the forge.

Once he got everything it was too hot out to fire up the forge so he had to wait for a couple weeks to go out and finally start.

He finally had a good night to give it a try in the middle of September. Him and Jayse went out there and fired up the forge. It worked right away and as soon as the metal was bright orange they pulled it out and started pounding on it. The handle on the hammer Jayse was using broke only after a few whacks. So him and Greg traded off. They pounded on the metal until it started to break away from the rod it was welded too.

It seemed like they did a lot of hammering and it didn’t change the metal too much but they’ve been out a few more times and it’s really starting to change so stayed tuned for more and we’ll see if they can really make something.
