Italy – Last Day and to Home

On our last day in Italy we didn’t do much. We were going to see Michelangelo’s Last Supper but we didn’t get tickets in advance and there weren’t any available. There was also a transportation strike so the metro was closed most of the day.

We did make it to an American restaurant called America Graffiti for lunch. It was pretty good but funny how some of their American wasn’t really American – especially the ranch.

Luckily the metro opened in time for us to go get our Covid tests. It was pretty easy but a little chaotic in this tiny pharmacy with the 7 of us.

It happened to be Milan Fashion Week and all the big celebrities were in town. We found a fashion show that was by the pharmacy. We went by but it turned out to be a big ole nothing. No celebrity siting, in fact we saw almost no people.

It was windy and cold out so we just went back to Brandi & Ryan’s apartment.

On Saturday we got up early to head to the airport. I had scheduled a taxi to pick us but when we got outside and were waiting for it I checked the reservation and realized that I’d scheduled it for the wrong day! Luckily Ryan was able to get one scheduled for us real quick.

We were however, now late to the airport and in hindsight we should of scheduled the original taxi for even earlier. It was so crazy at the airport. Our taxi driver didn’t speak English and so he just dropped us off at the first door. We had to walk across the entire airport to find the Untied check in. For some reason when I did an online checkin I couldn’t check us all in and some of us didn’t have seats so we had to get all that straightened out. Of course in the middle of it their printer stopped and we had to start all over at another desk. I told Greg and Jayse to take off, they were the only 2 that had all their tickets.

Next they got Hunter, Holden & Teaven’s information done and tickets printed so they took off. Jaelee and I were last. When we got our tickets I knew we were WAY behind so we started running. On our way to security we passed Hunter, Holden & Teaven who had been stopped by the police. Jaelee wanted to stop but I shoved her passed, didn’t want to also get caught up in whatever they were.  We made it a long line of security and saw Greg and Jayse. After a bit we saw Hunter, Holden & Teaven – thanks goodness they got threw the police. Jaelee and I made it up to security and she forgot to take a water bottle out of her bag so we got pulled to the side for them to search her bag. The guard asked us if we were running late and I said yes. He swabbed her water bottle – which was empty and put it threw a machine. It came back fine so he gave us back her water bottle and bag and said we coudl go.

Next we had another check point where we had to show our passports. At this point we caught up to Greg and Jayse and got in line with them. Hunter, Holden & Teaven got to go threw a shorter line because they didn’t have kids. They got threw quick and headed to the gate.

When we got threw that part the United team had met up with us and told us the plane was about to close and they were waiting for us. We had to run with them to the gate and barely made it to the plane before they closed the doors and took off. I was so thirsty and sweaty by the time I got to my seat, thank goodness I was next to Teaven and not some stranger! What a trip that was.

I luckily was by the window. I got a picture of Milan as we took off.
