In Idaho you can get your driving permit at 14 1/2 and your license at 15. The kids turned 14 1/2 in November. Jayse was asking when we’d be able to go get his permit. I told him we’d go after January. They had a day off of school during the week so I thought it would be the perfect time to go. I scheduled an appt for them at the DMV. I had done my research and had everything ready.

We had to get a VOC form from the school. The weekend before we were going to get the permits we realized that one of the forms didn’t get signed. I thought crap, now there is no school before we go. Luckily even though the students didn’t have school, it was still open. All the staff was there grading and finishing up the semester. We were able to stop at the school and get the paper signed before our appt.

At the DMV we got a no none sense woman. Luckily I had everything we needed. However, she told me that I needed to know what drivers ed class they were taking because they send the permit directly to them. I had done some research but hadn’t decided yet. She asked if I’d like to step to the side to pick one. We did and I hurried and picked a place.

I was bummed and they were bummed they didn’t get their permit right away. However, the drivers ed place I picked happened to have openings Feb. 7th and it’s only a 3 week course. 2 weeks of class work and 1 driving. So they wont have to wait long to get their permits.

Greg and I thought it would be a good idea to take them out and give them a chance to drive my car. We went out to where I lived in high school. It is just a lot of country roads. So not a lot of traffic. It was a good place to give them some practice.

I took them through the same loop I did while learning to drive. Kinda wild going back with my kids to the same place.

Greg sat passenger with the kids. He is more patient than I am. I was freaking out. There were a few times I couldn’t help myself and I had to yell out breaks or slow down! Overall though they did pretty good.

By the time we were done it was snowing like crazy. This big huge flakes.

We were jamming out to some music from high school too. It all felt very nostalgic.

They even got to drive in some snow!
