The school was doing a Jazz benefit fundraiser for next years band. There was a silent auction, desert dash, appetizers and of course jazz music.
When I heard about it at a band booster meeting it sounded like a fancy event. I assumed people dressed up. Jaelee and I went dress shopping. I went through 3 different dresses. We made Greg go get a suite from DI.
When the evening came we got all dressed up and headed to JUMP where it was being held. Right away when we got in the elevator with a couple in jeans I knew I had assumed wrong. When we got to the floor and out of th elevator I noticed that pretty much no one was dressed up. Ooops.
We went in and found a table, got some appetizers and sat down. Luckily all the members of the jazz bands were dressed up, the booster parents and a few others. We weren’t the only ones but may have been the most dressed up. I even saw people dressed in hoodies and jeans.
Our school has 2 jazz bands and we have a new Boise jazz band and each performed. It was pretty great. Even Greg said he had a good time. The Boise Jazz Project was really good – they said they are mostly a group of music teachers.
Jaelee fell in love with a cornet decorated to become a door hanger. She just had to have it so we bid on it and a group of gift cards that Greg and I could use for date nights. We ended up winning both.
Even though we were over dressed we all had a good time and best of all we helped the future of next years band just by being there.
