On Wednesday I had scheduled our boat trip to the Na Pali coast. We had to get up super early to get to the port area by 7 am. It was about a 40 minute drive so we left a little after 6 am.
It was just starting to get light as we were walking to the catamaran.
We were lucky in that there was only 30 people – normally they said it was about 50. There was plenty of room to move around. We were also lucky that Leora didn’t get sea sick. We weren’t sure how she’d handle it. Our 3rd luck came in the weather! There was a chance we wouldn’t even be able to go out. In the winter Hawaii doesn’t get snow as they told us but their winter thing is swells and just a few days ago they had been as high as 10-20 feet and had to cancel trips. The swell on our day was 1 foot! So not only did we still get to go out but we also got to snorkel. Our captain told us a few times this was epic weather and we were so lucky.
Our first activity was the snorkeling. I thought it was weird that early in the morning, the sun was just barely up. I thought it would be freezing but it wasn’t too bad. Jaelee was one of the first to get her gear and slide into the water from the slide on the boat. As Leora and I were slowly putting on our gear and getting the water Jaelee came back and said she thought she’d be ok but now thought she might have a fear of deep water. I talked her into going back in with Leor and I.
Leora was pretty scared, I am so glad we had been snorkeling on the beach before hand, it gave her good practice. We all got in the water and just kind of floated for a bit. Once we were comfortable and breathing alright we swam towards the area they told us to go in.
The water wasn’t as clear as normal do we couldn’t see really deep. We didn’t see a lot of fish but we saw some. After a bit we decided to go back to the boat. Just as we got on the boat right where we had just left we saw a sea turtle!
After snorkeling the boat headed up to the Na Pali coast. We were served breakfast on the way. It was fruit and cinnamon rolls, delicious! The captain and crew were great. We had good music and they were always checking on everyone.
Along the way we saw dolphins – they were right next to the boat! It was awesome. We also so whale. So cool!
The coast was beautiful. The sun made it hard to get pictures but I still got some. Our captain told us about movies that were shot there on the coast and where. Jurassic Park, Pirates of the Caribean and Tropic Thunder are some I remember.
It was such a beautiful day. The girls and I decided that if we had to move to Hawaii our job would be working on the boat. We all also decided this was our favorite thing on the whole trip.
We also had lunch on the boat and then headed back.
After the boat trip we just went back to our hotel and hung out at the pool. For dinner we got nachos, grilled cheeses and fries at the hotel bar.
We were inspired to watch Moana from the boat trip, so that night we watched it and ate popcorn in our hotel room. It was a great day!
Sun just coming up as we walked to the boat.
More accidental selfies.
Pepsi made in Hawaii
I put sunscreen on and then wiped my hand on my leg, you can see I ended up with a tan around my hand print.
Jaelee went to the bathroom and came out with her hair like this.
