For the guys’ trip they flew to Texas during Spring Break to go on a hog hunt. Greg found a place just east of Dallas for it, named Swamp Stomp. They flew out on Sunday early, I took them to the airport at 5:30 am. They arrived in Texas about 10 am. It was time for them to go get the rental car, drive the hour to the AirBnB and go to Walmart to buy some coolers to bring the meat back.
Greg said the AirBnB was nice. It was in a secluded area where they felt like no one else was around.
Their hunt was Monday morning. They got there early to set out hunting. The first hunt of the day they took dogs out. The dogs did most of the work. They’d pin a hog and bite it’s ears to keep it there. One person then grabbed the hind legs of the hog and another person stabbed it. They did it 3 times so each person got a chance to do it. Greg was the first to go, then his friend Greg and finally Jayse.
The hog Jayse got was down in a creek, they got pretty muddy.
After the hog hunt they went back to the main area and shot guns at clay pigeons. Had some lunch. Then they waited for the night hunt. In the night hunt they drove around looking for hogs through night visions scopes. Greg said it was pretty cool, you could make out the animal pretty easy, they saw deer, rabbits, amradillos and hogs.
They ended up only getting one during the night hunt. Greg thought they’d just be slottering pigs so he was a little disappointed but he said it was still pretty awesome.
On Tuesday, they drove to Oklahoma to visit Greg’s uncle Craig and his wife. They got to catch up and go to dinner together. Nobody took any pictures of that….darn it!
I actually got more pictures then I expected from the hog hunt so I guess I can’t complain.
On Wednesday they packed up and headed back to Dallas. They flew out at 4:30 and got back at about 10:30 at night. Brought home 2 coolers of meat. They said it was pretty tough, as they had some for dinner on Tuesday night so we decided to take it to a local butcher and have it all made into breakfast sausage.
They had a great time and said they would love to do it again.
The place took video, Greg got the raw footage and I put it together with some of the video they got and pictures.
