When my in-laws celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, we knew we had to mark the occasion with something special. After some brainstorming, we decided on an Alaskan cruise. This promised breathtaking landscapes, unique wildlife, and the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation.
I had done some research and knew I wanted to go to Glacier Bay. Which meant a one way cruise. We would leave from Vancouver, CA and fly home from Anchorage. We were flying to Vancouver from Boise and Steve and LaRee were flying from Portland.
Our flight was pretty easy, we had to get up early – our flight was leaving at 6 am. We arrived in Vancouver by 8:40. We of course got picked for a random security screening. We had to go another room and talk with officers and they went through 2 of our bags. Luckily, we had plenty of time. After we got through that we got some breakfast and waited at the airport until Steve and LaRee arrived.
Once we were all together we took the metro to the port. The train was right across the street. It was a nice ride and a cool way to see Vancouver. Which, looks like a really nice city. I’d love to go back and stay there.
We did have a good walk from the metro stop to the port. It wouldn’t of been too bad but with all our luggage it was not too fun. Once we got to the port we had to go through security and a custom check. It was very organized but it was a lot of walking from point to point. By the time we were finally to the boat we were all pretty tired and hungry.
It was a bit confusing figuring out where our rooms where and what we should do on the boat but we figured it out and got to our room. We quickly put our luggage in our rooms and went to go find the food. LaRee was tired (I don’t blame her, it was a long day) so she skipped lunch/dinner but met us later on the ship deck where we hung out for a while in the lounge chairs and sun. We watched the boat leave the port. Greg and I went to the front of the boat – it was very windy to watch as we made our way out into the water.
That night we went to a comedy show. Jayse didn’t want to go – I think he would of really liked it but the rest of us did. It was pretty funny. He was a “magician” and comedian. Not a lot of magic but a lot of laughs.
We were pretty tired after that so we retreated to our rooms. Greg went back out to look at the sunset but I was fast asleep.
Jaelee got this picture of the sunrise from the plane as we left.

She also got this picture from the plane of Mount Rainier.

This is our room, a bit cramped but not too bad. I would say if we do a cruise again I would 100% do a balcony room.
