I never expected to see either of my kids playing something at my old school but the day came! One of Jayse’s coaches was the football coach at my old school – I’m guessing this is how this came about.
We had a football jamboree out in Melba with some other small schools. McCall, Weiser and Melba. It was surreal seeing my son there. I did see some guys I went to high school with – assuming their sons now play football. I saw my former school bus driver and a couple of teachers. My former history teacher and his wife my BPA leader and former typing teacher were there. He was one of the refs for the game and she was working concessions. They have since become friends and I always love catching up with them.
This jamboree was a good time to see how the team was going to do this season. We had high hopes. They have been working hard and putting in a lot of practices. Sadly, it was the same. They lost against all the teams but the last one – Melba.
The team looked like misfits as they wore practice jersey’s because they didn’t have their away uniforms yet.
Last year Jayse played a lot, he played both defense and offense. This year we figured on varsity he’d be playing less but he is almost not playing at all. He’s position is linebacker on the defense. It’s been a bummer he’s not playing as much but we still think there is room for him to prove himself and get more playing time.
After the jamboree I talked with the Lincoln’s for a bit. Greg went to the car but then came and hung out while we chatted – I thought he’d just hang out in the car so I was surprised to see him. When we were walking back to the car he told me I could keep talking if I wanted. I looked at him strange and asked why? He said I might have locked the keys inn the car but I’ve already called Jaelee and she’s on the way with keys. We live an hour away so we definitely had some time.
As Larry (the ref and my former history teacher, now friend) was leaving. He stopped to ask us why we were still there, I told him our situation. He stayed and talked with his for another hour. He’s such a great guy and I can see why even after 20 years he’s still a teacher and I’m sure a lot of the students favorite. I told him now that I’m older I appreciate history so much more. He said he’s be a millionaire for all the times he’s been told that.
Finally Jaelee arrived and saved the day! She was so cute pulling up in her sunglasses driving the truck. While I hate how fast time goes I sure love having older kids – especially when they can come rescue their parents!
It was a pretty special day watching my son play at my old school and somehow we even got Jaelee out there.

I was trying to get a picture of Greg by the locked car. He was not having it but I thought it was pretty funny.
