Hike at Property

Jayse was with his friends for the last part of Spring Break, they went to one of his friends grandparents places out in Council. He drove the little truck with a four wheeler. I watched him load it up and get ready to go. Feels like he’s gotten so old.

Greg and I wanted to go to the property hike, Jaelee didn’t want to go. Each time we’ve gone I’ve tried to hike up a little farther, eventually the goal is to get to the top so I can see the views.

When we got there, Greg took off. He wanted to get to all his trail cameras. I just wanted to get further then I had before. There was still quit a bit of snow, especially down by the road. It’s pretty exhausting getting through that but once you get up higher there is little to no snow.

I just took my time and before I knew it I was at the aqueduct. I was confused because it felt like I was going straight up the whole time and the aqueduct is near the center of the property. I also knew near there Greg said there was a den and he thought it might be a bear den. I started to panic. I had nothing but my trekking poles and it’s getting warmer so what if it was a bear and it comes out? I took a few pictures and then got the heck out of there. I decided I’d gone far enough (farther then ever before) so I went back down.

I knew Greg would be a while longer so I decided to walk the road on the lower part of the property. I took a few pictures along my way. When I was cold and done I went back to my car and started it up. I forgot to download a book so I plugged in our old video player and started one of my classic favs. The Count of Monte Cristo. I was only a few minutes in just when I was nice and comfy when Greg showed up.

We wanted to get out of there early enough, we knew Jayse was coming back that day and he’d had some issues the day before so we wanted to be within cell service.

Some of the snow piled up on the road was still as tall as me.

When Jayse got home I had to go out and look at the truck. He’d gotten the four wheeler stuck in mud several times with his friends. They then decided to take the truck out and got it stuck 3 times. He spent about 5 hours getting the truck unstuck. A neighbor of his friend grandparents came and helped him and that person got stuck twice! Lots of lessons were learned.

That evening we ate dinner out on the deck and roasted smores. Been so long since we did that, the graham crackers tasted and smelt like saw dust, the marshmallows were hard as rocks and we had no chocolate. Luckily we found a spare box of graham crackers, the heat helped with the hard marshmallows and Jaelee dug into her Christmas candy she still has for chocolate.

Jayse procrastinated and had to unload the 4 wheeler and wash down the truck in the dark. Another lesson learned.
