Memorial Day at Thorn Creek

We spent Memorial Day weekend at our property. Greg and I went out there on Friday. He wanted to go to his bear site to try and get one. I tagged along to see where it was and what this was all about. We had a pretty good four wheeler ride to his spot. I rode on the back of his four wheeler. I don’t feel comfortable enough yet to drive my own. There are parts of the road that are pretty gnarly.

Once we got close to the spot we got off the four wheeler and walked a ways in. We climbed up a slight hill to sit where we had a clear site to where the bait barrel was. We sat out there for a couple of hours. Never did see a bear. I was getting a bit chilly and was so bored! I ended up playing solitaire on my phone for a while. However, I was rewarded with the most beautiful sunset and view. On the way back I kept having Greg stop so I could take pictures. It was stunning.

Since I got new furniture for my deck we took the chairs we had out there to the property. Greg had them all set up around the firepit. I think they look pretty nice!

The day I went home, took a shower, did some errands chores and then got the kids. We all headed back out to the property for the rest of the weekend. We got out there in time for dinner and a treat. We tried this smores casserole I saw online. We got it took close to the fire so the bottom part was burnt but overall it was delicious! We all just grabbed forks and dove in. It was super yummy.

There is a portion of the road that is covered in butterflies. I rode down there and tried to take some pictures of them.

Jaelee had gone up on Thursday all by herself. Greg was up there and she wanted to bring her kayak out. Jayse helped her load it onto the top of her car and she drove out there by herself. While we were out there for the weekend, we decided to take the kayak and some paddleboards to Robbie Creek.

When Jaelee was younger while Greg was teaching her out to ride the four wheeler she had a little accident with it and has been scared to ride one since. She only drives the mini bike. Her and I went on a ride. I was on the four wheeler and she followed on the bike. Afterwards I convinced her to drive the four wheeler with me behind. Afterwards she was no longer afraid and said she kinda liked the four wheeler better.

Here we are on it:

After paddleboarding/kayaking we went back to camp. We had a quick dinner and then Greg and Jayse went to the bear bait site, hoping for a bear. They did see one but it was too small to shoot. Jaelee and I stayed back at camp and played some card games.

The next morning we packed up and went home. Unlike most years we did not have a BBQ at our house for Memorial Day. It was kinda strange but it was a really good weekend with our little family.
