Last Night on a Hill

Night on a Hill is a fun band tradition. It’s the last practice before DIII. They invite family and friends to come to come and watch one performance. It’s also when they recognize seniors in the marching band. The boosters and parents decorate the band room with posters and goodies while the kids are practicing. Such a fun way to celebrate the marching band season.

The trombone section decided to get matching shirts this year for Night on a Hill. They had the last name and marching band position number om each shirt. It was pretty cool and something they’ll have forever.

This year for Jaelee’s poster I wanted to go huge. I created a poster that I could put on a tri-fold poster board. I also created a cut out of her that would go on top. I worked with a local printer to have it printed and mounted on foam core. Then we added lights and some goodies. It was awesome and really huge. We got lots of compliments.

When we got to the field they were practicing so we got to see a bit of that. Then they all gathered up and recognized the seniors. The director of the band – Mrs. Brings gives the kids an option of a hung or handshake when she calls them up and then she gives them a rose. Jaelee wanted a hug. I didn’t cry yet.

Then it was time for their performance I lost it. I was so emotional seeing them out there. It was hard to take pictures because I couldn’t see well through my tears. I have loved watching Jaelee in band so much. I love hearing about the band traditions and how much fun she has had with it. I love the music and performance. I sure am going to miss it. I still have my fingers crossed she’ll play in college but we’ll see.

We have waited until her senior year to add the GoPro to her for Night on a Hill and dang it, the card was corrupted and we didn’t get anything!

The trombone section decided to wear mustaches since their section leader had one. Jaelee took it off during the performance but put it back on after.
