More Milling at Thorn Creek

The following weekend for Valentines day we were back at the property milling. Ashton came up Saturday and helped Greg. I worked on raking the forest – LOL. We are trying to clear the pine needles away from where we are building since we plan to have a wood stove. We don’t want anything that could cause a fire.

That almost happened a few weeks prior. I was tending the fire and put a bunch of limbs on it and it went huge! It started the pine needles on the hill on fire. Greg is so chill, he has no panic. I was freaking out. He just grabbed a rake and put the fire out.

We got a good amount of wood milled – the pile is growing! Ashton left for the day and we went into Idaho City for dinner. They were having a special dinner for Valentines Day. It was a 3 course meal with caprese skewer appetizer, salad, dinner was pork with potatoes or salmon with rice. We each got one so we could share and try both. We both agreed the salmon was better. It had this shrimp sauce on it with little shrimp in it. Maybe one of the best I’ve ever had. So good. Then we got chocolate cake for dessert. It was delicious. We had a nice time.

The next morning Greg was up early and went hiking to check is traps and cameras. I slept in and only got up when he came in and told me there was a stellar jay right by our camper. They are in the blue jay family. Very pretty blue bird.

I think I spent the next hour or more taking pictures of this dang bird, lol! I got a few keepers.

I then went up to the mill and watched/help Greg get a another log milled up.

I got bit by a wasp, I thought a piece of wood hit me but when I found a wasp in my shirt minutes later I realized it wasn’t wood hitting me but a bite!

I’m trying to decide if I want to put blue or green stain on the wood for the exterior of our cabin. I love both. So I brought it up with me and tested a stick. I thought I had decided after seeing the blue bird. Thought it was a sign but when I painted the door green on the crap shack I am back to undecided.

We got treated to live music during dinner that night. It was pretty good but I think the woman of the duo was a bit toasted from too much liquor.
