The kids first soccer games were on Easter weekend. They are always on a Saturday. Luckily they are on the same field. For their first soccer games Jaelee’s was first. We had to be there at 9 am. She had 3 practices under her belt and her coach had been doing a great job with the girls. She asked to be the goalie first thing. I don’t think she or any of the girls understood exactly how to do that. She did a pretty good job. She stopped a few balls but there were quit a few goals made. In the first few minutes of the game it became clear that the other team was much more practiced. The girls tried their hardest. Jaelee even some how made a goal. In the end they lost pretty severely but Jaelee had so much fun.
We had a few hours until Jayse’s game so we ran home to get some lunch and then headed back for his game. Jayse’s team had only 1 practice and after seeing Jaelee’s game we had a pretty good idea that his team was going to struggle as well. Jayse’s coach was not able to make it to the game so his wife and a couple of the parents tried to coach and help the boys but it was pretty much a mess. The other team dominated them but all the kids seemed to be having fun. Jayse is not very aggressive so he just runs around the field following the ball. He only would kick it if it happened to come near him but he never aggressively went after the ball. In the last quarter he asked to be goalie. He was like Jaelee, he stopped a few balls but most of them made it through for goals. He got bored being the goalie about 2 minutes in and asked if he could do something else but us and his coach made him stick it out. His team also ended up being beaten pretty bad but he also had a lot of fun and seems to love soccer.
