Spring Break – Swimming Lessons

This year we didn’t have much planned for Spring Break but I wanted the kids to be able to do something so I signed them up for swimming lessons. They had been asking to do this year a while. Luckily at the local YMCA they had a special just for spring break.

On the first day we got there Jayse was really shy and changed his mind about wanting to do it. He kept telling me he wasn’t going to. I finally got him to sit with all the other kids while they got the safety instructions. And then he gives me a panic look in his face as he realized he had lost his goggles. I told him I would retrace our steps and find them. I went all the way back to the car and didn’t see them anywhere. I went back to the check in desk and someone had turned them in. Thank goodness because it would of made Jayse not wanting to participate even worse. Once he got his goggles the kids broke off into their groups and he went off with them with no problem.

Of course like almost everything he does once he does it he loves it and doesn’t want to stop.

They did swimming lessons the whole week of spring break and each night after the lesson we let them stay and swim. Jaelee kept asking me to go off the high dive but I was like no way, it’s dangerous, she’ll get scared so I didn’t let her go. When Greg took the kids the next night she asked him and he let her. She just jumped right off. She said she was scared but she just kept saying to herself, you can do this and she jumped. Love that about her. Jayse jumped off the normal diving board but never went off the high one.

They also got to go down the slide a bunch of times and they loved swimming laps in the lap pool. I think even in that short week I saw an improvement in their swimming. Jayse got really good at his strokes and swimming really fast. Glad they got to do that.
