Day 4 was the start of all our exciting excursions! And we started them with a great one. But first we had been wanting to go out and kayak and try paddle boarding. Our hotel had told us we could get them for free so we thought why not? We wanted to wait until morning when the water was calmer. So on Tuesday we went out and that’s what we did. I made a big mistake by not bringing my contacts and I was terrified if I went out in the water I’d lose my glasses so I watched from the shore.

Jaelee and Greg went out in the kayak first. Then the very nice guy helped Jayse with the paddle board. There was a little boy there who’s dad was a beach vendor (not sure what they are called) he was such a good helper. He was pulling the kayaks and paddle boards to the sand and helping give life jackets. He was probably only 8 and was such a cutie! Anyway Jayse had never been on a paddle board before and he did really well. Me and the guy at the rentals thought he would fall for sure getting up but he never did! They went out in the ocean and kayaked/paddled around for a while and then came back. Then Greg and Jayse went out in the kayak. Jaelee was tired from paddling in the kayak and didn’t want to try the paddle board.

It was a really nice morning.

When we were done with that we went back to the marina. Another guest at our hotel and told us that there was a crocodile near the marina. He had told us where it was and that there was caution tape up. So we went down there to see if we could spot him. We never did though, dang it!

That night we had an excursion set up. It was to see Savia, Rhythms of the Night. It’s where you get to ride a boat out into the jungle for 45 minutes, eat a delicious dinner and then see a show. I was so excited for this. This show was created by the same person that co-created cirque du soleil so I knew it would be entertaining!

We had to get to the other side of the marina where the boat would leave. We thought about walking there but it was a 45-60 minute walk and we’d have to walk part of the time on a pretty busy road so we decided to take an Uber. Side note we found Uber was WAY easier to travel with than getting a taxi. Because with Uber you use your phone to put in your destination, you know how much it will be ahead of time and you don’t have to exchange any money. We had a few taxi’s we took when it was the only option and they didn’t speak english. With Uber even if they didn’t speak english it didn’t really matter, it was all taken care of through the app.

Anyway we got to the marina and didn’t have to wait long before we boarded the boat. It was a pretty big boat, I think they said there was about 50 of us on it. We had a 45 minute ride to the jungle. The crew on the boat was fantastic! They made it so entertaining and were so hospitable – as was everyone we encountered in Mexico. Can not say enough about how friendly everyone was! We got complementary drinks and they were playing great music. We started out in the middle of the boat but couldn’t see much so we moved to the front. I didn’t even think about the wind and as soon as I stepped up to the front my hat and mask flew off – never to be seen again.

When we got to the island we were all guided off and through the jungle to our tables along the beach. While walking through we were greeted with music, entertainers dressed in fantastic costumes, lit tiki torches and friendly service. We picked a table higher up on some rocks where we could see most of the beach. Our table already had plates and forks set with candles and flowers. It was amazing. We picked up our plates and got in line for the delicious food buffet. The food was delicious. There was beef brisket, chicken, shrimp and fish. Potatoes and salad and desert. Sooo good. We stuffed our selves as the sun set. While eating Jaelee spotted a stingy ray in the water below us and we had a pelican floating in the water feasting on something as well.

A man playing a guitar and blowing into a whistle played beautiful music. It was absolutely a dream! And that was all before the show! After dinner you could walk around and explore for a bit if you wanted to. Then they gave everyone a 15 minute warning to use the bathroom and get ready to walk to wear the show was. We had already used the bathroom so we walked towards the show entrance. We were some of the first in line! We ended up with some great seats. Only a few rows back from the stage.

I will say the seats for the show were not the most comfortable, they were long skinny benches but luckily they had some padding on them. I was worried that we forgot bug spray and all the bugs in the jungle would eat me alive but we could smell some bug spray in the air. Some how they were keeping all the bugs away..what a special bonus.

The show started once it got dark and it did not disappoint! There were people jumping on see saws, turning on wheels, singing, drumming, fire, ribbon dancing, jumping high in the air off swings. It was great! We really really enjoyed ourselves. Once the show was over the sent people out in groups back to their boats. We had a nice ride back to the marina. We had to get a taxi back from the show and our driver was amazing. He was so friendly and had been to Idaho before! We talked the entire way back.

Can’t say enough how amazing this day and night was and the amazing times kept going through the rest of the week!
