Tried to remember to get more pictures of our food. This was from the breakfast buffet at our hotel. A yummy bread thing, some meatballs and tator tot things. It was all pretty good. There were some real funky things there that you’d never see on my plate….like liver paste.
I could not wait to go to the Christmas markets. We had seen a couple on our way to our hotel the night before. My sister had also done some research about where the best markets were. There were several around us. We went to the couple we saw the night before first.
These are some pictures of what we saw on our walk to the first market.
We saw this from all areas of the city. There is a restaurant up in that globe that turns so you get a view for an hour of the city. We learned that when that hour is up your time in the restaurant is up and it’s someone elses turn.
The first Christmas market we came to was closed. It was Christmas Eve and that day is bigger in Germany than Christmas. They do their big dinners and open presents on Christmas Eve. So it was closed but one just down the way was open.
It was a bit dreary and rainy out so the first order of business was trying Gluhwein (mulled wine). I didn’t really love it so I opted to get hot chocolate with the kids most of the time.
Love these German pyramids.
I ended up buying a small one to take home.
After the first Christmas market we decided to do a Hop on Hop off bus. It was rainy and we only had 2 days there so we figured it would be a good way to see the highlights and it was!
One of our first stops was the Oberbaum Bridge and the Berlin wall.
This golden dome building is called the New Synagogue.
Berlin Cathedral
Altes Museum – sadly like the Christmas markets a lot of things were closed this day. We got to enjoy them all from the outside though.
Friedrichswerder Church peaking out from another building
Lots of pictures of this church but they are from me, Greg, Jaelee and Jayse.
Jaelee took my camera and got a few pictures.
The Alte Nationalgalerie
Getting a closer look of this pretty synagogue.
A place called Freedom camp. They had arranged all the leaves into heart shapes.
Brandenburg Gate
the Holocaust Memorial
The Victory Column
The Carillon in Berlin-Tiergarten
Back of Reichstag
Reichstag
Bellevue Palace
Closer view of the Victory Column
Berlin Zoo
Berlin Wall checkpoint charlie
A happy girl because she got McDonalds.
We loved the food in Germany, I had this for lunch in a small little market by Checkpoint Charlie. It’s a Frikadellen (meatball) sandwich. All they put on it is ketchup and it is soo good.
Jayden happy with his McDonald nuggets too.
Hot pizza!
Loved the difference in the new and old buildings here.
We made our way to another Christmas market. This one was the only one that cost and it was $1 Euro. It was very busy. My sister and I found out that at the Christmas markets you get to keep the mugs if you want. If you don’t you turn them back in and get $3 euros back. They happened to have some great mugs at this one. I kept all 4 of ours.
This market was so packed it was hard to walk around it or get too close to any of the booths. It was really beautiful at night though. We walked around for a bit, got our drinks and mugs and then headed out and back to our hotel.
The Empty Library
Love this mug. Has the name of the market and drawings of all the places we had been to that day.
Jaelee got this picture of all of us crammed in the elevator at the hotel.
We stopped at a little market, I picked these out and they were delicious.
That night our hotel was having a Christmas Eve buffet. The kids didn’t want to go so we let them stay in the rooms while the adults went to eat. Luckily they didn’t wan to eat because it was $36 euros a piece and there was not much Jaelee would of ate. There were some odd things but some pretty good too. I ate a bunch of salmon. The deserts were all delicous!
